It is with a sense of call that Pastor David and his wife Barbara relocated to the Mount Uniacke area at the beginning of 2017 to accept my call as interim Lead Pastor of this caring intimate and friendly multi-generational fellowship on the growing rural and suburban edge of HRM. We are excited to see what God has in store for us as we learn and grow together in God's love, Christ's compassion and the enabling Holy Spirit.
I was born in St. John’s, NFLD in 1956 and have an identical twin brother Robert (and 4 other siblings). From an early age a special Great Aunt took me to her Sunday School class at an United Church. I accepted Christ as my personal Saviour through a Brethren Bible Chapel at the age of 11, and was later baptized at Parkview Fellowship Baptist Church. In 1969, my family moved to Halifax and during college I became very involved in the Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship (IVCF) movement, while completing a B.A. in History in 1978 and a Masters in Library Service (1980) at Dalhousie University.
Having met Barbara Jean Marsland through IVCF, we were married in 1980 at Bayers Rd. Baptist Church. Barbara has had a varied career as a homemaker, accounting technician, piano and Music for Young Children teacher, as well as in various volunteer positions. Moving to Port Hawkesbury, NS in 1983, I became a Bookmobile Librarian with Eastern Counties Regional Library (ECRL). Our family grew to include two daughters Meghan (now 31) and Emma (29), and we became active at Port Hawkesbury Baptist Church (PHBC). I received a Local Lay License from PHBC in 1992. Resigning from ECRL as the Chief Librarian in late 2006, I accepted the Lord’s call to enter Acadia Divinity College in the M. Div. Program, and an offer to pastor part-time at Hall’s Harbour Baptist Church. Upon graduation in June 2009, I was called to be the Lead Pastor of Bridgetown Baptist Church and two other nearby churches. From late 2013 to mid-2016, we relocated to Red Deer, Alberta to support our youngest daughter and husband in the raising of our three young grandsons (now ages 2 to 6 years old).
Over the years I was greatly influenced by my father Winston's family in Hopeall, Trinity Bay, NFLD. Ministering to these close family members and others through difficult circumstances, and the early death of my Mom and Barb's Dad, in 1998 & 2001 respectively, had a profound impact on our faith, and helped strengthen our ministry. Nothing gives us greater joy than being able to share the light, life and love of Christ with others, especially through trying circumstances.
